Restaurant in space: Access to 45,000 euros

Enjoy gourmet dishes suspended in space with a view of #Earth? It will soon be possible in the first starry restaurant in Earth's orbit, which will be managed by Join Space VIP and hosted inside Space Perspective's Neptune spaceship.

The world's first zero-carbon space capsule will make this unprecedented experience possible, allowing explorers to enjoy the dishes of starred chef Rasmus Munk. The inaugural launch is scheduled for 2025, but reservations are already open.

The six-hour journey to 30,000 meters above sea level includes a set menu, with dishes specially prepared by Munk, whose Alchemist restaurant in Copenhagen received two Michelin stars in 2021. The dishes will be inspired by space exploration over the past 60 years of human history.

The price is also truly space-age: the ticket to dine on board the spaceship - lifted by a balloon filled with hydrogen - is around 450,000 euros. The was created with the aim of promoting gender equality in science and technology and part of the proceeds will be donated to an association that supports this cause.

What do I think?

The previously read news was recently published on the GreenMe Instagram page. Reading it as a common social media user, I would like to express my doubts regarding the topics covered. I find the idea of requiring a payment of around 45,000 euros for access and the construction of a restaurant in the space to be somewhat questionable. This initiative raises reservations in me, considering that there are much more pressing and crucial issues in the sector to be addressed and financed . If the goal is to promote gender equality, I would suggest focusing on pursuing the global goals defined by the United Nations (SDGs 5), which represent a more solid and inclusive guide to address global challenges.

I hope that what has been said, especially regarding the cost of the ticket, is seriously reviewed and that above all the idea of the gourmet restaurant in the space is reevaluated.

FOCUS SDGs 5

Here is goal 5 and what you need to do to achieve it:

What it consists of: Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but is also the necessary basis for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Women continue to not have an equal presence in political, economic and public life, and to be subject to discrimination and violence. Furthermore, in the workplace, they receive lower salaries and are subjected to greater legal and cultural barriers to advance their careers.

SDG 5 intends to guarantee equal access to education and medical care for women, in the workplace and within political and economic decision-making bodies.

Role of companies: companies are called to adopt internal policies and procedures that guarantee the same rights and work opportunities for women compared to men, and to invest externally in economic empowerment programs for women and girls, thus encouraging economic growth and social development.

How to measure companies' contribution: Some indicators to evaluate companies' actions include: total number and compensation level of new employees and employee turnover rate by age groups, gender and region; composition of the governing bodies; number and type of episodes of gender violence (psychic and physical) that occurred in the workplace; percentage of employees who are regularly evaluated in relation to merit and professional performance, by gender and job category.
